changing potting medium

hello everyone. Been awhile since ive been here, what with the back surgery and such.
Anyway im wondering if i should change the medium in my plants , its a bark rock mix, plants been in it for several years and i would like too put fresh medium in for them.
is this necessary and if so how often.??

thanks and happy holidays everyone

Glad you made it through the surgery. Welcome back!

Most people repot most orchids every 2-3 years. Ideally the plants grow so much they get too big for the pots in that length of time. Many people choose pot sizes with that in mind. A bigger pot than that often stays too wet for too long. Bark tends not to last much longer.

The best time to repot is generally when plants are making new growth, and always when they're just starting new roots. Early winter in temperate zones is rarely a good time to repot. Maybe wait until next spring.
