I bought a haetracalla retracalla orchid it is mounted on tree fern was wondering if i can put it in a vase with leca beads and leave the lid on at all times. Would that be fine.

A closed containter will maintain humidity, but most orchids want/need air movement too. You are not going to get that in a closed container. Successful terrarium growers usually have both fan and light source. I suspect that in the closed vase it will also not be getting the light that it needs. If you need to protect it indoors for the winter months, it will be OK for awhile, but in spring, it would, I think, be better to give it a more natural environment. Where do you live? Haraella retrocalla (syn. Haraella odorata) can tolerate quite a wide temperature range, down to 40 deg F (4-5 deg C), up to 90 deg F. (32 deg C). However, if it has been living in a warm greenhouse, keep it in similar temperature for the winter, but in spring it can acclimate to a wider temperature range,.

Thank you. I will keep the lid off for air circulation.

I agree these little ones need air circulation however I have a Schoenorchis fragrans mounted on a stick. It is smaller than my Haraella. The Schoenorchis hangs inside a small vase, pebbles in the bottom with a bit of water for humidity. The mount never touches the water.

I have a "lid" for this tiny vase, I put the lid on at night and remove the lid mid morning. It sits in a southeast window, gets steamy in the morning when it's sunny. I've grown this plant this way for over two years, it blooms and grows for me. It seems to be happy with its private little home.

You can always move your plant if it isn't happy. My Haraella is growing in a terrarium.

I concur, the plant will need more air circulation than you are planning. I would go with Pattywack's method. If it blooms in the vase it should give off a notable fragrance.

Use the Search function in the top maroon menu to look for this plant. There are members of Orchid Board growing it very nicely as you describe.
