Dendrobium anosmum

In bloom approx a month early this year.

The photo on the right shows it in the window box. To the left is another plant with 3 budded stems. It will be blooming at the normal time in March. Not sure why the one on the right is early.

The frangrance is very pleasant - I don't know how to describe it, but very pleasant. Not real "perfumey".

Thanks for looking.

Wow Ross! I really like it! So do these naturally grow upside down? Is that EpiWeb they are mounted on?

Yes they are pendulous by nature. The early one is mounted on cork (actually it has left the cork and grows out in the air!) The later one on the left is mounted on tree fern. I believe they will grow well mounted on just about anything.

Hmmm.....I should mount mine....are all dendrobiums pendulous by nature and would they all do well mounted? I am really liking the epiweb product that Ray sells....I have a cattleya species mounted on it and it has just gone crazy! I wish I could mount all of my 'chids, I just wouldn't have time for the daily watering it would require!

Nice! You know its spring when the Honohono's are blooming!! Mine seems to bloom in May, but I have a feeling its not pure anosmum. Good work! I love the scent that comes from these guys.

No not all are pendulous. Check Jay's Orchid site to see if yours are.

Looks great, Ross

Mine is full of buds, I'm waiting patiently. I find the fragrance of mine to be like raspberries...yummy yummy

Hi Ross -
I've heard the scent of anosmum described as 'rhubarb' - which is pretty close.
One of my first orchids was this one, purchased in glorious bloom, then it grew like mad for the next three seasons. Suddenly, the leaves all fell off, so I chucked it into the trash. Thought it was defunct.
Live and learn!
Cheers - Nancy

Now that's humorous. Was going to say funny, but wasn't sure you'd think that. My first year wa spent trying to keep the leaves from falling off, but then no flowers. Once I found out that's what is supposed to happen I have done better.
