Pollen Trade?

For those of you who knew me back when I first joined the forum, I've always been someone avidly interested in breeding. However, because there are so many types of orchids out there, many of which cannot grow in my conditions, it hasn't always been possible to have both types of parents for a cross that I want to make. So in the past I've done pollen trading and storage with these little plastic bottles.

So while laws prevent me from enticing people outside of Canada with seedlings, if you're willing to spend the few dollars that it would cost to send a regular letter back internationally, I would be willing to mail you a couple of these caps for you to fill with pollen. I have so many interesting ideas for crosses, but I need help. And if you have doubts that stored pollen doesn't work, I did happen to get viable seedlings from a cross that I used stored pollen someone from the States sent me.

What exactly are you seeking?

Quite a bit. For Catts, I'm looking for nice, wide petal red, pink, purple, orange and art shade, so basically warm and bright colours with decent form (so basically unifoliate Catts). I am looking on the smaller end of the scale, so mid-size to mini Catts.

I'm also looking for any Oncidium types, especially the dazzling purples and reds of the Miltonias and complex hybrids. Even Tolumnia types.

Also, any of the rupicolous Laelia species/hybrids.

Most of my Cattleyas are seedlings (I gave away the large ones and began to collect the smaller ones). I think the one you would probably like is the L. alaorii x C. Pole Star 'Firestorm' (Sophronitis coccinea and Laelia briegeri). It was a freebie with an order...I would mail you the little orchid if I could.

Oncidiums...I just have the Burr. Nelly Isler. That one is so complex, I don't think it would be easy to get a successful cross.

Ugh, yeah, that cross sounds amazing. Damn these stupid laws.

Sorry about that. When it blooms one day, you are welcome to the pollen.

Exotic Orchids of Maui was the place that sent it. Their seedlings are not badly priced for the quality and shipping is reasonable (for Hawaii). You need to buy $100 so you get quite a few, all packed very beautifully and in full happy Hawaiian health.
