Blc. Yen Corona 'Green Genius'

1 Attachment(s)
I recently bought a Blc. Yen Corona 'Green Genius' from a local vendor. I was looking at some pictures on google and saw a similar orchid named Blc. Yen Corona 'Green Geni'. Are they the same or just very similar? Was mine mislabeled? The vendor is very reputable in my area and I have bought lots of beautiful orchids from him. Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help you with the name but it is a lovely color.

Yes, I thought so, too. I hope I can get it to bloom again!

It is likely 'Green Genie'. This hybrid has been awarded twice and in 2007 the Green Genie cultivar got an 81 point AM/AOS. All the pictures in OW are of Green genie except 1. Nothing listed for the other spellings.

Actually, I have the hybrid Blc. Village Chief North which looks almost identical and has one parent the same as yours (Rlc. Memoria Helen Brown). Mine is in bloom now too. In OrchidWiz, there is an awarded cultivar named for the Village Chief North called 'Green Genius' It seems odd that two different crosses have such similar cultivar names and I can see where confusion could happen in labelling. The 'Green Genius' awards are all Taiwan awards (TOGA) whereas yours is an AOS award, so must just be coincidence??

Thanks for the reply Silken. I just thought it was weird that two orchids that looked so similar would have such similar name too. And now you tell me there is a third one! Blows my mind.

There are only 2 that have officially registered names. The Yen Corona 'Green Genie' and the Village Chief North 'Green Genius' Yours may have had a confusion in the cultivar name due to the similarities or the breeder may have chosen to use that name but not register it. But unless Orchid Wiz has incorrect records, there are only 2 with similar cultivar names. You can check this type of info on the Royal Hort Society registry too which is where all these things are registered.

You could always ask the vendor.
