Can a schefflera be grown in vase of water?
1 Attachment(s)
Okay, my plant peeps. I put this plant in my orchid tank when I went on my trip. It was in there for about 8 weeks. It grew like crazy! Being misted for about 2 minutes everyday and sitting under the strong orchid lamps. I had to remove it because it was overtaking the 'chids and blocking the light. The bottom of the tank had filled with water, which I just siphoned out today. Do you think this plant would be okay being grown in a vase of water? The newer roots had been growing under the moss in the LECA, under water, for weeks. Would it kill it, if I just put it in a vase of water, instead of repotting in dirt? I may have to get a lamp to put over this guy too, because it did so well in the orchid tank! I just don't have enough natural light to keep it growing.
Thanks! Amanda |
Schefflera is probably a reasonable choice for water culture. It may lose any roots that aren't adapted for it, and might get hard to manage if it is a large growing form, but I think you have pretty good evidence it can succeed.
