Vanda coerulea 'Loretta'
1 Attachment(s)
A reliable summer bloomer. Loretta was a friend of my parents who taught me about gardening when I was 10. I learned that carrots are grown in the ground and peas come from the most wonderful purple flowers. She grew tuberous begonias and dahlias as big as dinner plates. Her secret, just care for them every few days.
I named this orchid after her when she took ill 7 years ago, Parkisons and strokes ended her life at the age of 82. But we had a chance to talk by phone; a photo of 'Loretta' and a little printed tribute sat on her dresser the day she died. Small things can mean so much. |
What a gorgeous plant! I enjoyed your heartfelt post about how the plant received it's name even more than looking at your stunning picture. I agree when you say it's the small things that mean so much!

Thank you all so much! Loretta would be pleased too. It reminds me to follow every little impulse to be generous in words and deeds because life is too short.
