Would you pay for...

If your Phalaenopsis orchid was sick, and you did everything you could think of to help save it. Would you invest in a service that specializes in reviving Phal orchids?

What if your Phal dies while in their care? They guarantee 50% refund. Would you do it? Would you not? Be honest. Be brutal.
Thanks!:bowing

No, honestly I'd just buy a new one, it's cheaper and it will be healthier.

No-Pro-mwa 06-23-2016 10:41 AM

It would depend on the type of Phal it was. Like dendro king say's if it is just a big box store one that's what I would do. If it is a very hard to find one or has a huge meaning to you I'd maybe give it a go.

I personally can't imagine spending enough money on a Phal to justify the cost of such a service. A plant with emotional value could be a different matter I suppose.

DeaC 06-23-2016 12:28 PM

I think the experience and benefit of caring for an ailing plant outweighs paying someone else treating it with perhaps more access to treatments you'll never be able to acquire, for whatever reason.:twocents:

I would only do it if it had sentimental value and depends on cost.

I wouldn't pay...even if I did, I would want to know what they did...it simply doesn't make any sense to me to pay for such service.

lcarmer 06-23-2016 01:42 PM

That's a very good point :)

I agree. You could gain much knowledge from learning how to revive an orchid yourself.

Whimgrinder 06-23-2016 03:17 PM

Nope.

Orchid Whisperer 06-23-2016 05:28 PM

Although I would not use such a service, it is an interesting idea.

To me, growing orchids is all about the personal experience of doing all the things we do to grow them. The enjoyment is in the learning, and in being able to do what few bother to learn. Also, sharing how to do things. Sometimes the learning means failing, or coming back from the brink of failure.

To me, it would be like paying someone to play an unbeatable game of basketball for you. Or a round of golf, tennis match, or bowling. And yet, we do that with sports all the time (consider the cost of NBA tickets), so if someone is willing to pay for such a service, why not?
