It's amazing how rapidly buds fill out; this somehow happened overnight. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses over the next few days. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6cc48b21e9.jpg

Some of them do seem to go very quickly from bud to flower. I am looking forward to seeing the flower!

AS soon as cattleya alliance buds break through the sheath, it's close to showtime!

Most Sophs don't have a sheath per se; the leaves open and the bud(s) are already present. I've noticed this most on Sophronitis cernua & Sophronitis brevipedunculata; any of the cattleyas do this?

I think walkeriana and its hybrids lack sheaths.

A bit over 48 hours since the last pic and about a tripling in size; the color is just beginning to come in. There are 2 more leads getting ready to open as well. It will be interesting to see if they too bear buds.

And 48 hours later, we have this. There's a small notch in the top of one of the petals, most likely mechanical in nature. Overall, I'm very happy with the flower quality, especially as it's a first bloom seedling.
