lancifolium
Any advice on growing Cymbidium lancifolium , Have had 2 plants for about 3 years now they put on new growths each year and flower, but the foliage always looks yellowish and generally scruffy, I grow in a mix of fine bark and perlite ,water with rain water, and feed with rain mix and grow in the greenhouse with my other cyms, is it too much light ??
I live in the uk in deep wales |
That is one of the two species I have a great deal of difficulty keeping alive. The only advice I have is to read as much as you can on how they grow in their native environment. Then contact Steven Early at his web site an see how you an change what you are doing to get better results. Not a simple answer, I know, but it may result in an improvement.

Thank you for answering I have contacted Stephen and had his reply at the same time as yours I shall try his advice and see what happens . As to the other species you have difficulty with would that be tigrinum I have managed to kill one or two of these

Yes, tigrinum is another one, but the hybrids grow well. Sometimes difficulty with growing the species has to do with too many salts in the water and/or too much fertilizer. This especially true of the narrow leaved Cym species as erythraeum, insigne and whiteae. Once you solve that problem and reach a happy ground, these too should do well for you.
