Poor health Rhyv. Colmarie

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and to growing of orchids in general. I have had some phalaenopsis for a few years, so there's understanding of basic care, but once i found out about vandas, i've been in love.
Finally decided to purchase one after doing some reading. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it since there's always a chance of killing it. found one for a reasonable price in an online group i'm a member of. It finally arrived in the mail.

the leaves are a bit on a yellow side, and have black spots on them (which i think are Guignardia). There are a lot of roots that look like they are alive, but are covered in green moss. I guess i should be more upset by it's condition, but it give me some determination to make it healthy. She just needs a bit of love an attention. I am curious to see if anyone has suggestions on best way to get her healthy, quickly.

It is currently in a plastic basket with no medium of any sort. it's been soaked in water once a day (when i got it yesterday, and today)

I will post some pictures once i have 5 posts to my name.

I have little experience with Vandas, so can't comment about yours - hopefully others will offer guidance.

Well, i have not posted in this forum enough to share pictures yet. But my Rhynchostylis is doing SOOOOOOO much better. The leaves are getting darker green and showing signs of growth, and I have 3 new root tips showing. Whatever i've been doing to it, i will continue to do, because it seems to be working!

Great! If you respond to another post, that is counted toward the 5 messages you need before posting. You only have 3 to go.

This is a Vandachostylis (Vanda hybrid x Rhynchostylis gigantea). It has inherited some of the Rhy gigantea characteristics, incl almost succulent leaves and very thick roots.

If you are OK watering daily, you can leave it with no mix in the basket.

If you want to get to a schedule, where you water twice a week in summer and once a week in winter, then you need to add some mix in the basket.

The CON to using mix is, that Rhy gigantea (and to some extent it's hybrids) absolutely hate being repotted. If you use mix in the basket, be prepared to removing it very carefully (likely cutting the basket apart) when it is time to repot.

This hybrid does well under Cattleya conditions (IE, not quite as high light as true Vandas).
