Catt In A Tree--Propagation/Division
 

I have 5 Cattleya growing in a large potted Ficus tree. This part will be the topic of another discussion.

Three have flowered but 2 haven't, yet. All were put in tree about same time--4 years, or so, ago.

ALL are growing very nicely.

Anyway..I've divided other orchids in the past and all of these have been from pots.
All my past divisions have shown new growth on all the "new plants" at the time I re-potted/made more orchids ;)

If I take the "last" 3 or 4 new growth plants and leave the older one...can I expect the old/remaining growth to produce still?

Four of these Catts are only growing in one direction.
Hence my question...about old plants producing new growth.

I want to keep these Catts growing and blooming in the tree but they are getting "that size" and I also love to have a few in pots/baskets.

All help, as always, appreciated.

You should get new growth from the older backbulbs regardless of how many leads the plant has, providing the rhizome still has viable eyes.

Using the tiniest dab of Keiki paste will usually give them a great jump start too and could develope multiple leads on the old backbulbs. Wouldn't that be a great show?!?

Deep down I know this.
But we're adjusting my pain meds and I find myself being unsure of things I know that I "know".


It's not happening any time soon. I want to wait and see what the new bulbs do on the 2 that haven never bloomed for me.

And the 3 that have bloomed for me are in-bloom or about to do it again!
I know..it's terrible that I have to complain about Catts blooming once more, this season.
