Anyone else growing Den lawesii?

Looking to compare notes or for any care/culture tips. I got mine last spring and it's already putting out a healthy looking new cane. Does anyone know when this is supposed to bloom? I know that it blooms off the old canes once the leaves have dropped. The cane from last year looks like it's still growing and showing no signs of dropping any leaves (I accidentally broke off the tip of this cane but the plant doesn't appear to have minded). There's another cane that is still holding onto the last few leaves, and 2 other completely leafless, one of which was in bloom when I got it. Thanks for any info :)

I love this one very much, just I can't swing it where i live now without a greenhouse i think... I did grow it before when I had a bigger growing case years ago...

it bloomed whenever it felt like it off leafless canes, seemed strongest in summer/fall for some reason, but it can have flowers on it year round... i kept it coolish, rather shaded, and watered it a lot...

how are you growing it? growth seems good so you must be doing it well...

It was getting full sun from the east until the sun passed over the house and bright light (on days we actually had sun) the rest of the day. We moved about a month and a half ago and it's currently in a southern window but I'm going to have to figure something else out because once all the leaves come out fully all of my windows are going to be heavily shaded :( I water it daily, when it's approaching dryness...

I looked it up. Wow!

Did you look at the entry on IOSPE?
IOSPE PHOTOS.

Sounds like it gets medium to bright shade and is moist most of the time.

Yes, this belongs to a section dens from new guinea, et al. that's pretty moist and shady growing... but higher light of course gets a bit more blooms but there's a tipping point where they'll burn or be stressed as I found out... but yours looks good from the east window! the purple on the stems is nice...

a shaded southern exposure may work perfectly, you'll just have to see, as i said I had to keep it shaded, ie move a bunch of mounts needing higher light over it in my old (big) growing case... from a metal halide light I use to use... or... you could stick outside in said trees a little later in the year... ;)

They were pretty shaded suspended mid level in heavily stocked areas at Andy's orchids when i was there last... all dangling down in your face as you attempt to go through all that vegetation...
