How to care for a Masdevallia Patricia Hill
 

I recently got a bloomed Masdevallia Patricia Hill and a Vanda Hiroshima Choice (Vanda falcata x Vanda flabellata). Im unsure how to precisely care for both. I figured it would be like any orchid, indirect sunlight, bark medium and low dose of fertilizer during watering. Is that correct?
I also wanted to know if Masdevallia could be mounted on driftwood?

You got two interesting plants. However there is such a large variation into how different genus' of orchids are grown. The idea that any orchid just takes indirect sunlight, bark and low fertilizer when watered will not work for most orchids! The Masdevalia is a cool to cold growing plant and will not tolerate a lot of sun and warmth. Luckily this one will take a little more light than some but prefers nights in the 50's and 60's. Fine bark and some moss will work and it needs to be kept moist but not soggy and only fertilized a couple times a month. Water quality is important. Preferably rain water or R/O but failing that, so long as it isn't tap water that was softened with a softener and not too many minerals in the water should be fine. High humidity is good, but mine do OK with not real high humidity so long as they are kept cool

I'm not sure I would mount the Masdie. It can be done if you are growing it in a terrarium or can keep it moist all the time and cool roots. potting is recommended and many use clay pots to aid with keeping the roots cool.

Vandas are pretty much the other end of the spectrum for orchid care, requiring quite high light and usually have their roots bare and misted daily. But some come potted or in vase culture. For yours, OrchidWiz recommends growing mounted or in a basket. They like high humidity and quite a bit of sunlight although this one does not need direct light. Vandas are quite heavy feeders when growing so can be fertilized when watered most of the time. A good rinse with clear water will clear out fertilizer salts from the roots every month. This one can have bright indirect light.

Moving air is important for both of them.

Thank you. I have tried to find information on both, but there's not a lot of articles. The one I read on Masdevallia did tell me to keep it cool. It's kind of perfect, since I live in Ohio and I have a room in my apartment that stays cool no matter what at night. Thank you for the direct information I needed!

It gives the cross as Masdevallia ignea x Masdevallia welischii. You can google the two parents to find out more about your orchid (what conditions each parents needs).
