Sunroom setup
6 Attachment(s)
Ok, so I tried to take the windowsill to the extreme. I've got a sunroom that I started to overtake last year with a few plants. Now, I think I've got about 50 or so in there. I mounted 1/2" EMT electrical conduit to the ceiling to rope hang some drainage trays. Each tray drains into the next and then into a bucket (temp removed) below the lowest one.
I've switched a bunch to semi-hydro which seems to be going well for the most part. I've got lights in there too, T5s and T8s where the sun can't quite reach on the shelf. Heat mats are on the middle and lower shelves to help establish roots. Its in a bit of a state of transition, as nearly all my paphs, phrags, and a few others are huddled together on the heat mats. Eventually they will be going in the hanging drainage trays. If you're wondering, yes thats snow outside :) The pics were taken a couple months ago. The sun heats this room up like you wouldn't believe, so sunny days in winter can get comfortable. Overcast, and the heat is cranked! In summer, I have to run A/C unless its under 25C outside where I can open the windows. Last pic is of my office window setup. Enjoy! |
Well done!! I like the hanging trays...very clever. I do believe your orchids will live very happily in that space and I wish I had a space like it myself.
Oh, the office space looks great too. |
Awsome set up

Thanks Ray and Dan
Nice, the Swamp Cooler will be outside the GH pumping moist air in. I will put the pond mister in a 5 gallon bucket inside the GH, I don't think I need a separate fan, but will add that if needed. That way I can use the Thermostat on one, and humidistat on the other. Really appreciate the advice on the settings. |
Thanks everyone!
Here's an update for the office setup, and its inevitable growth. I've got 18 now hanging from my bendy electrical conduit, all trying to be placed in the ideal spot for light requirements. I also added another straight piece of conduit closer to the window. I was running out of space :) Bulb. medusae Zygo. maxillaire Paph. urbanianum (in spike) Paph. Thanks! Lots of new plants since these pics were taken. I took a panoramic pic of the sunroom a while ago (see below). Even still, I have two more trays hanging against the back wall now. I'll try to update again in 6 months or so.
