It is also known as Prosthechea cochleata (cochleata meaning shaped like a snail shell on the lip). It is part of the Cattleya group.

The first word on your tag should read Encyclia. This is one of the names this orchid has had.

I hear this is really easy to care for, and a reliable bloomer. Its "pet" name is "the octopus orchid." I have always seen it called Prosthechea cochleata. Yeah, it looks like someone made a real bad type-o with the first word "encyclia."

Thank you to those who responded. I thought it was interesting that this orchid is also know as "the octopus Orchid" . I kinda thought it looked like bird with a Kings Crown on the birds head.

Very cool Guys and thanks again
