pitting on paph leaves
 

Hello, I just bought a paph (as well as two onc. sharry babies and one cym. noid) and I noticed after bringing it home that it has pitting on it's leaves. Is this normal? Or is there a pest I'm not seeing. I've looked it over and I haven't seen anything (except some leaves are dying). There isn't any discoloration, the top surface is just pitted.

I don't have a clue, but want to bump this to the top again so in case someone else knows the answer. I will be anxious to hear the answer, by the way. kiki

Looks like past aphid damage, just my :twocents:
Where did you buy them?

From a flower shop. They carry quite a few orchids there and usually they're in pretty good condition.

Looks like cell collapse , could be from temperatures either to hot or cold in the past , cold water on the leaves , as long as it is firm I would not worry . Hope this helps a little Gin

I agree with Gin, it sounds a lot like cell collapse. This also happens from drastic changes in temperature and humidity. When these conditions change too rapidly, the plant doesn't have time to adjust...and the cell just collapses. It should be alright, but it will always be on that leaf, it's kind of like a tatoo or a brand. As long as the leaves that are dieing are bottom ones, this is normal (to an extent). If one or two die, okay, but if the others start to follow.....there's a problem below the surface!

Thanks! The leaves that are dying are the two oldest on the newest 'growth'? I'm not sure what to call them :blushing: I only have other paph and it only has one stem... I'm a little worried that it was overwatered before I got it because the mix is really damp still (I got it on Thursday). It's a bit more damp then I'm used to, but they are semi-terrestrial right? So maybe that's okay?

Does the cellular collapse also happen to phals?? I had a phal that was sitting in a hot window for awhile and moved it about a month ago.. but i noticed pitting and don't know if it's because of the period of time it was in that hot sun window or something more recent like a pest?
