Medusea X Persius bloom
 

I must say, it is a bit underwhelming, but once the plant is bigger, I think having a dozen of these at one time would not be so bad. The yellow color is cute, and it does not smell. This is after about 4 days of being out. I took the picture now, because I don't know how long the flowers last. I think it is fully opened.

It's a medusea on one side, so the parent is a puff ball looking flower, but the other parent Perseus looks like a long chiropedium type. It did open just a slight bit more for a more "daisy" shape. I will take another picture tomorrow. It really looks like there is no way for an insect to pollinate it, and also it has a very faint sweet scent, so it is trying to attract someone. I have no idea where it is hiding its pollen.

My guess is it's not open yet, very cool however! Wish I could grow those...

Just getting it to bloom is a win to me. I have yet to get either of my 2 bulbos to bloom. My medusa is not doing so swell.

Well No-Pro-mwa, as they say, what kind of care are you giving them? I was always under the impression that they needed shade, or even partial shade. Well, after listening around I took the risk. They can handle full sun (75% is safer). I think when it gets really hot here, maybe they will need some shade, but not now.

Also, I did not put them in baskets, I have them in flat dishes with 6 holes drilled in the side, making their medium wet at all times (slight dry down overnight). The medium is a layer of chunky bark followed by a fairly thick layer of sphagam moss. They are tied down with zip ties because I am of the opinion that since plants in nature are not repotted, they will suffer setbacks if they are not firm in their pot and this happens only after they have been in the pot for awhile, so tie them down (did you see the stability mount thing I posted). They sit on top of the moss. Another thing, you can keep the bulb in water for several days if it becomes desiccated. These plants are really water lovers, and they would really do well on the side of a pond. Soak them but take them out for the night (when the stomata open).

Yeah, it wasn't fully open. Now it is. There are little vents for the bugs to come in. Gnats probably.

It sure is an interesting one. I was expecting a little more color from this cross, but I guess the medusae won out there.

Well the leaves are nice and big. I will keep trying, because it might look good with a bunch of flowers. It does look like a sad example of a Medusa. So far I have not seen many medusa crosses that are on par than the original. No idea why they make crosses.

Then maybe I should up my light. I too thought they needed more shade. My tingabarinum is in a basket pot with peanuts in the bottom and a seedling spagh medium. I keep it in a saucer of water. I believe I got that from a user named Brooke. I haven't seen her on in a while but she has some beautiful plants. It actually has not done to bad in new growths and has 3 right now.

My medusa I have just in spagh and I do have it staked up as it is not very secure in the pot. It was OK for a while and had a new growth then the leafs on the 2 newest growths turned black and fell off. I am wondering if It wasn't getting enough air flow or humidity as at that exact time I had stopped running the humidifier for several days. They are both setting very close to the humidifier.
