thrips update
3 Attachment(s)
Hello !
I post a few days ago a problem with some orchids that the flowers were dying before they bloom, and "estacion seca" told me it coul de thrips. so today I coul took a picture to that little insect that was around my orchids. Yesterday I used an organic repelent that is suposed to work with thrips, But today I saw a few of them so Im not sure if it's really working or I have to wait for a few days to see some results. Here are the photos of the insect I found and the spray I used Thanks! |
Thrips have wings and this could have flown in from other plants ? I think the insecticide you used is a contact insecticide and you would have to spray regularly to get rid of newcomers.

I use Bayer 3 in 1 spray to control thrips. This was suggested to me by Roy Takunaga at H&R Nurseries, I believe. Start spraying the spikes as soon as they appear (the spikes, that is) and spray regularly. I used to lose a lot of dendrobium and vanda spikes to thrips, but the Bayer does the job well. I also spray the cats if thrips appear. Thrips are realllly tiny little black bugs.

I lost a cymmbidiium spike like that, and after reading that thrips could be the cause, I sprayed each plant with imacloporid and the problem wasn't repeated.
