White Orchid changed to colored orchid
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I've never joined anything like this. However, I'm dying to know if anyone can explain how my white orchid of three + years, re-bloomed and is now deep purple , spotted with a tinge of light green and white on the edges??? I'll see if I can attach a pic here...

Don't know, but can guess. Maybe it is genetically spotted, but a modifier changed the amount of red. Could be due to mutation or culture changes. I know in breeding horses (which I have done for years) you can have a pinto horse but might be almost totally white or it could be totally brown with limited white. Same cross with same parents can give you any combination of colors.

quite interesting! I have a sogo something that looks a lot like that which I got about 2 years ago. To have a white orchid turn into something like that is indeed a puzzler!

Personally, I think they're two different plants.
Culture, especially temperature and light levels, can affect the development of red coloration, but I really doubt it would be that big of a difference. |
