Pinguicula bloom

I've gotten my little Pinguicula esseriana to bloom! These cute little ones are carnivores! I grow this on a piece of lava rock sitting in the water :)

Nice!

That is adorable! The leaves of yours are so green! The leaves of my noID ping are all speckled (from fungus gnats). :)

SFLguy 03-14-2016 11:30 PM

The leaves on this ping are about as wide as a fungus gnat is long, plus I don't have many plants in this area so the fungus gnat count is low (especially with my larger Pinguicula gigantea nearby).
I'm happy with its growth but I've seen that they can become pink with more intense lighting :)

Oh, it's simply adorable. And I love how it's growing on lava rock. I've never seen that before. So clean. I'd like to try that. Thanks for the idea.

Do you know if they'd grow in LECA?

If the LECA isn't leaching any salts or nutrients, sure!
The lava rock is always sitting in distilled water except during their dry dormancy

I also love how you can propagate them by pulling a few dormant, succulent leaves and repotting. You'll never run out. :)

I wonder if you could use either the lava or LECA for drosera. I dislike the messiness of the water it sits in with the regular potting media. Yuk!
