Enc. cordigera 'Rosea' fragrant?

I saw a Encyclia cordigera var Rosea at my local nursery and I fell in love with the fat round pseudobulbs. It was in spike (not yet blooming), but I read online that they should be fragrant too, which sealed the deal for me!

Finally two of the blooms have opened and they are beautiful -- very dark sepals and round saturated pink/purple lip. (Looks like maybe six or seven more buds to go.) But sadly I'm not detecting any fragrance. I've checked in the early morning, late afternoon, and evening/night. I'm at work during the day. I'll be home during the weekend.

Anybody have experience with this orchid? Does the fragrance develop later? Or am I just out of luck on that dimension.

I've read it needs to be warm and sunny for the fragrance to be released.

Ah. Well Portland, Oregon in the late-winter would explain the lack of fragrance in that case. No sunny weather in the immediate forecast either.

When we get some sunny warm days again I'll post the results.

That only happens in odd years, right?

Odd years and the occasional leap year evidently.

Wow. For about 15 minutes early this morning it was quite fragrant -- a lovely scent of rose that I could smell several feed away.

Not a particularly warm or sunny morning, so I have no idea why.

I have it on my "currently in bloom" table next to a Bulbophyllum echinolabium which was blooming but has started to fade. Maybe it didn't want to compete with the rotting meat smell?

In any event I'm hoping for some sunny weather to encourage it throughout the day. It is truly lovely.

A picture would be lovely.

No-Pro-mwa — Once a few more of the buds open I'll post one.

Today it was still fragrant mid-day. Really lovely.

I love the way that Enc. cordigera smells
I got a semi alba form in bloom at home depot in January and the flowers are just starting to fade but it has had the most amazing fragrance since then

As promised, here are some shots of it. It is definitely more fragrant in the morning, but it does linger a bit into the evening.
