Miniature Vanda-like noid
1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I just picked up this orchid with no tag. I find it intriguing, reminds me of a miniature vanda. It has thick roots like a vanda, but has tiny purple flowers with a curled up bottom lip. It is fragrant. I want to find out the species so I know how to take care of it properly. Thanks for any help :) For some reason I can only post 1 pic at a time so I will post more below.

That is a type of rhynchostylis. It's in the vandaceous family.

Thank you so much! I have a rhynchostylis but it is much bigger, I think it's a gigantea so that makes sense. Thanks again!

Ascocenda maybe? (Ascocentrum x Vanda) Vanda-like flowers, but smaller, and often more of them.

I am 99% certain, that this is a pure Rhy gigantea. Some of the dark red varieties have relatively skinny leaves.
NOTE: When you take photos of flowers, try to take the shot horizontally on the face (the ones posted here are taken at an angle from above). |

Thank you for the tip Kim, I'll remember that.
