Repotting Time for Pee Wee
 

I own one Cymbidium. I love it. Was given to me by one of my orchid mentors years ago. I'll never get rid of it. It is time to repot it, and since I don't do this regular, I need advice. Actually I've never repotted it. Last time someone wanted back bulbs, so I told them if they would repot it, they could have the spares.

I know it is expensive, but it is only one plant. I was going to buy THIS mix. Think it is OK? Oh yeah, it is a "miniature." Cymbidium Pee Wee.

I'll just share that I've successfully repotted Cyms in Better Gro Phalaenopsis mix. Not saying it is better or worse, but it works for me & is much cheaper, $5 or $6 for 8 quarts, and is widely available locally with no shipping. I do pick out the really big bark chunks & use those with other plants.

My hybrid Cyms don't seem to be fussy about their potting mix - I usually use medium bark chips, perlite, some styro pnuts. That said - I know a lot of people love the various mixes from Repotme (I don't remember any feedback specifically about the Cym mix), if it makes you feel more secure about repotting it may be worthwhile. It does seem like it would retain moisture better than just medium fir bark, like I use - which may be helpful especially if the pot is not especially large.

Hopefully there are members who can comment specifically about the repotme mix.

Ben, when I re-potted mine last summer I got a very nice re-pot sheet from Cym lady. You should PM her and she will send it to you. It really did help me out. She say's to cut off some of the roots.

I would think that mix would be fine however. I used coconut mix for mine.

Cymbidiums are terrestrials, but need a 'light' mix.. I use:

2 parts chunky peat (do not use regular garden center peat, it is too fine).
1 part composted manure
1 part bark
1 part coarse perlite

In place of perlite, you could use Aliflor (= LECA).
