Flasking - 1st attempt
1 Attachment(s)
I set about flashing orchid seeds and have had some success, so thought I would share it with you.
First off, I tried sterilising the jars of media in a large boiler with a few inches of water. I put a lid on and boiled it for about 40 minutes. I left the jars in a shady spot indoors, and a within 8 days, I lost the lot to mould....:scratchhead: I bought a high pressure cooker from the second hand shop, and started again. This time I didn't lose any jars and I made about 20! Hooray! I have my seeds and lights set up in the unused toilet at our warehouse, not glamorous, but it is out of everyone's way. I am using warm compact fluorescent coils - just the usual household ones. There are no heat concerns, so I have them as close to the jars as I can get them. They are on a timer for 8.5 hours per day. The closeup is Den. Canaliculatum corms (sprouts:lol:). It took about three weeks for the first jar of Dendrobium seeds to start and today (6 weeks later) three more have started. They are all Dendrobiums. I also have Neofenetia and Cattleya seeds which are not sprouting as yet. I tried to attach more photos but I think they are too large. |
