Oncidium Sharry Baby with soft yellow pseudobulb
 

Hi, had this Oncidium Sharry Baby for a few months now and it's been growing like no-one's business. Just noticed yesterday that the oldest pseudobulb has turned yellow, is a bit softer than I would consider healthy, and is a darker brown colour toward the base (this pseudobulb is usually occurs from view by the rest of the plant, hence my only just noticing it).

Should I be worried? Does it need removing? Would it be advisable to remove the afflicted pseudobulb and repot?

yeah - that pbulb is toast :( Probably best to remove it.

If the front part of the plant is putting out new roots, probably a good time to repot, and when you do, you can remove that brown p-bulb, and probably the two leafless (and shriveling) ones in front of it. There are plenty of strong-looking pseudobulbs to give energy to the plant. When you repot, put the oldest growths at the edge of the pot, to give the new ones room to grow. You can probably use the same pot after you remove those old (rather useless) pseudobulbs. If you don't think there is room for another two years of new growth, you can go to a somewhat larger pot - but it is better to be crowded than in too large of a pot.

Yeah, that's what I thought ... went ahead and did it before waiting for a response, actually -- but it's good to know I did the right thing. Left the two leafless bulbs (the photo made them look a little more shrivelled than they actually are), and repotted in a slightly larger pot (there were a TON of roots to fit in!) after removing the yellowed pseudobulb and applying Captan to the cut.
