Greater Orlando Orchid Show Valentines Day Weekend
A small show, but you can sometimes get some interesting finds. Free admission too, and it's right near the science museum if you want to make a day of it. There's always a fruit tree vendor there also, and usually some other tropical.

Went today and found some nice things... I picked out an Epi. stanfordianum type hybrid C. Motte Spot x. Ert. Kevin Mark Ragbir in spike, the demo plant looked like the stanfordianum in white and purple, the spotting almost more like a misting all over it. My husband insisted on buying me something also, he walked around and picked out a blooming L. anceps hybrid (L. anceps 'Fort Caroline' x. C. Gail Perri "Coerulea') whose size, shape and blue coloring he liked. My first anceps hybrid and I've been thinking of getting an anceps, so . I don't usually buy the full grown bloomers but he wouldn't be talked out of it. Out of all my plants (100+?) this is only my second blue also.
Certainly worth going if you're around, I was surprised at how busy it was on a Friday! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps32x7z631.jpg (durn color doesn't photograph! It's a light blue, darker blue on lip) |
That's a very nice plant...I probably would have grabbed one had I not had to work today
|
So pretty and such a nice present.
|
I bought one plant today...honestly the cattleya selection was pretty small compared to past years
|
You're right... not a lot of catts, and my collection is getting more catt-centric all the time since they like my conditions best. There were a few less vendors too unless they weren't there until today; the fruit tree vendor outside and the plug vendor against the front wall (tables and chairs there this time), maybe another missing too? As picked over as it already was, I figured maybe they were holding some back to restock their tables today.
All the same, I don't always see something I want and there were a few nice ones. The anceps x. wasn't a bad price for the size of it either- $35. It came from Gross'. I've been meaning to get a Jiminey Cricket for years and Ritter's always has them, so it got put back down again since I got the stamfordianum x. Oh well! Next time. |
I bought a smaller cattleya from Gross' Orchids, which is one of the new ones. I did notice the lack of the fruit vendor this year.
