Spathoglottis affinis
Finally managed to get hold of this species a while back, still figuring out how best to grow it, it needs hot summers and cool dry winter rest (same climate as many dendrobiums except this is a terrestrial, growing in wet, very poor sandy soils most of the year (the nearest neighbors are typically sundews, or not far away Phaelenopsis pulcherhima). Always wanted to try it after seeing them en-mass in the wild.
Finally got a flower this January, there are no leaves on the plant at this time, just the flower spike. Another plant has a leaf and no spike! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1716/...628b297b_z.jpg As we saw them in-situ... https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6109/...8981fd55_z.jpg Different mountain, in a roadside ditch... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4091/...0ace6dba_z.jpg |
This is a very cheerful flower. I do not see many of these plants offered here in the USA. It is also good see pictures of orchids in situ! Thanks for posting.
