Setting up new Terrarium, this is my second

In my old house I set up a 29gal terrarium for the kids.
Mostly for frogs and stuff, it was split with a water feature.

Kids never got into the frogs, so I planted orchids in it.
They REALLY took off!
I sold the complete tank with plants and made from cash when we moved.

So now I want a dedicated Orchid tank without the water feature.
I am doing 29gal again cause I kept the old LED light from the other tank.

I wanted a false bottom to keep the substrate from soaking in water.
I was thinking of covering this with sphagnum moss to keep the other stuff from falling through.
Bad idea? Is there a better idea?

Nice! I set up my first 29 g terrarium about 3 months ago and it's been a lot of fun to play with. Fiberglass window screen or coarse tulle fabric work well to cover a false bottom, and won't break down over time like moss will. Also, you should either keep a low area uncovered or put in a standpipe to siphon out accumulated water from time to time. The higher-tech way to accomplish this is drilling the bottom to install a bulkhead with drain valve, which requires a bit more time and equipment for the initial setup but saves time and effort in the longer term.

Check out dendroboard.com sometime, it's one of the largest and best forums for info on terrarium construction.

I would use a weed blocker fabric or a fiberglass screen.

This weedblocker will also stop the roots?
I used that on my last tank.
I was assuming if roots want to go to the water they could?

I also have left over coconut husk substrate. I can use this again mixed with sphagnum moss?
