Hello

I just got a Schombolaelia George's Best with no flowers.

Does anyone have a picture of the flower ? What is the best way to repot it since it is overgrown? Thank you!

That doesn't seem to be a registered name. Does your tag name the parents? I would assume it would just take regular Cattleya care, but I have never grown a Schomburgkia.

Hi,thank you for responding. I looked it up, no luck. It is a very old plant,all tags say that name. I guess I will have to wait for it to bloom.

That's too bad. Does it look like a regular Catt? Did you buy it from an individual or a vendor? Maybe they can help. Will be interested to see the blooms. Hope you post them when it does.

I got it from an individual. It looks larger than a bifoliate cattleya. I have many extra divisions.

bifoliates are fussy about when to re-pot. Best to do it only when you see new roots growing. That is unless the media and roots are so bad that it needs immediate attention. When you say you have lots of divisions, do you mean growths on the one plant or you have a number of separate pieces? To bloom, it should have at least 4 or so growths to support the newest blooming growth.

Well, they certainly need re-potting. Something open and airy so the roots can breathe. I prefer clear plastic pots with holes. Wish you were closer. I would offer to "relieve" you of one :)

I tried to repot with rocks and bark to keep the air flowing. I have now to experiment with light requirements as mine don't bloom well. I have catts for years, ans all they do is grow, but not bloom.

Thanks, but no, shipping is not easy from the U.S. Need Phyto sanitary certificate etc. the pic of these looks like they are getting good light or were as the leaves are quite a light colour. Can you tell if they have old spikes from previous bloom?

Catts like fairly high light and some maybe need a bit cooler nights to bloom.
