Yikes! Found this on one pseudobulb of what appeared to be a healthy plant in spike. Doused the whole thing in cinnamon. Remove the bulb or does whole plant need to be tossed. :(

Spot goes right through to other side of pseudobulb.

Wowowo to much cinnamon it will dry the plant till it will die!!! 😨

Probably not. If you do that to the roots, sure, but not pseudobulbs.

Try Thiomyl or Inocucor Garden Solution, as they are systemic.

I had two days ago envesion of insect scale in one plant so I took 4l of water put in 30ml of moth wash then put in the plant for 10min and they were gone try sesodine or listerine.

Hi Ray,

Was your "probably not" in reference to cinnamon comment by Roey or to my question of needing to toss whole plant?

Thanks!

You could also perform a little surgery and cut that part out of the bulb, then treat with Isopropyl alcohol. I have had to do this before on orchids. If you can find one of the products Ray mentioned, following it up with a treatment would be a wise precaution.

The infection seems to be within the bulb so I am not certain how much the topical application of cinnamon will help. Good luck!

Thanks Leafmite, Roey P, and Ray.

Does anyone know what it might be and the cause (so I can prevent in future)? I tried looking for similar photos on the internet, but couldn't find any that looked like a perfect match (to my eye).

Both.

Without us being able to see the infected tissue without all of the cinnamon, it's awfully hard to diagnose the source of the issue and means of preventing future outbreaks.

That's a nice looking plant. Hopefully you don't have to toss the whole thing. I would be worried about that cinnamon getting into the roots. Can you tip it and rinse some off? If it is just one bulb for now, I would remove it and treat the cut.

Thanks Ray and Silken,

Will do surgery on pseudobulb in the am and remove the offending overuse of cinnamon ;-). ...Fear made me do it.:yikes:
