Help with Orchid Buds
2 Attachment(s)
I just bought another addition to my Phalaenopsis Orchid collection on 11/2/15 and I have not had one that had just buds on it. They were either in full bloom or a spike started. But this one I got seems like it is taking forever to bloom. How long does it usually take to bloom out? It sits in my bathroom where it gets good humidity and a fairly good dose of sun (no direct) also.

In a well-grown plant, spike initiation-to-blooming can often be in the 6-8 week range, but keep in mind that if you change the conditions the plant sees - bringing it home, into your environment, for example - will sometimes cause a plant to "stall" a bit.
Be patient - that looks to be "popping" any time now. |
Watching buds develop is often an agonizingly slow process. How long it takes will also depend on the temperature, and it's also hard to tell from your photo how mature that largest bud is. My guess is that you have at least another week to wait, and maybe more than that. Some of my Phals grow their buds relatively quickly, while i have one that where it was roughly at the same stage as yours, took a further 3 weeks to bloom.
I think the only think that can be said for sure is 'patience!' ;) And welcome to orchidboard! :) :waving |
Thank you both for the information!

As has been said, they can take their time. It's looking good though, it will get there! |
