Got a new blooming phalaenopsis
But also i notice it got 2 plastic pots on in one and also one leaf under the media. Also the root looks purpule with a bit of greenish but its firm and strong so maybe it's a new hybrid.
Open to suggestions. 😃😆 Enjoy your self to. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...fe5a0b3fd5.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...5e3aa44517.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...9bdcbe5f95.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09...316708e5bc.jpg Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk |

I'd remove the medium over the leaf to avoid having moisture for long periods on it.
When flowerinh is done and it shows signs of active growth, I'd repot it. |
Very nice.

The medium looks very fine which I would normally avoid with Phals, with that and the second pot I would unpot and take a look at the roots and pot it into an appropriate size pot for the roots. An inner pot may make it dry slower at the center which could lead to rot, especially if the medium is that fine all the way through.
Purple roots are fine, especially if they are out in the light. I often have purple tips on some of mine, one does have a purple tint on all the roots. |
So I too understand a lot in orchids but there is always something new to learn. But I know now that this orchid is in excellent quality. The question that I'm trying to answer is whather it done as a show to look biger and nicer so they berry the purpule roots and put double pots or is the double pot and the berry rot is because outside the nursery it's really hot now in my country 34 cellsius degrees.

I believe the double pot and buried roots are all about making the plant more visually appealing to the average buyer. Also, the hole-less ceramic pot helps to protect furniture from the water that drains out of the plastic pot.
It is my understanding that most people casually buy orchids to look nice in their homes for a short while. They don't care very much if the plants die. One of the largest commercial growers in the US claims that less than 1% of people who purchase their orchids will ever get them to rebloom. In fact, I have seen "care" tags on some store-bought orchids advising the purchaser to throw the plant away once the blooms fall! This is good business for that commercial grower, because most average orchid purchasers won't mind going back to the store and buying another plant. Of course, it makes me want to go rescue those "disposable" orchids, so I guess I'm playing into that company's hand, as well! haha :D |
