I am going to build !!
You guys are all like a virus... now I got it too...:D
Anyway I been growing a few orchids ( or better said keeping them alive) very little success with blooms I have this plant shelf I made long time ago for regular plants, I use it in the summer to put some smaller once on it, lately I have been storing some fire wood on it. I also have a ton of glass shelving laying around in backyard... I am going to build an encloser for my orchids with lights and all. will surly take some time... but it will happen, the goal is by the fall. Here is a picture of what I have to start with... could not find the glass yet. snow.. the shelf is build in cedar wood so here I go... Ok I'll wait for the snow to go. I will keep you guys up to date as on how it goes... And I am sure questions will come along the way http://www.trulycanadianeh.ca/images/shelf.jpg |
Welcome to the wonderful world of "terrarium" building!
Take your time and plan ahead. What orchid do you plan to have in this enclosure? What enviroment and so on? Do not hesitate to ask if you need any advice! There is plenty of experience here on orchidboard just waiting to give advice!!!! /Magnus /Magnus |
what are some good links on constructions / ideas/ materials ( I do have the frame and the glass, the shelfs are actually stainless steel ....can not see under the snow and wood ) I would like to go with the CF lights...any pro cons? I have a couple phals and some other orchid I rescued from a store many years ago...no tag, I got a bloom once but nothing lately... I will post a picture later, maybe some of you can put it in a group. I know it's not a phal

the wooden shelf is inside, I sanded it and hij a new bit of lacker on it. going to clean the stainless shelves today and hope to get some of the glass in and see how it is going to fit... key is the runoff on the glass can not end up on the floor... work in progress.

I did clean it up and for now got some plastic cover for it, I have put my sad orchids in there with some lights.... and...voila, One has now started with bloom stem... and some new roots, the other has new roots and a very good looking new leaf, the 3rd one does not seem unhappy, but is a bit slower in re-acting. All this from some great reads here on the forum... to all a THANK YOU !! onwards and upwards.

But it is a great virus to have!
