suggest background for terrarium
Planning to make terrarium from a 25 gallon aquarium . I plan for the side of the aquarium to be the bottom. So it will be high not long. Should i use spray foam, cork, combo. I may have a water feature (likely) small water fall. the size will be 12" wide by 24" high . Any suggestions?

If the aquarium is on its side, how will you keep the water in the water feature from coming out the open side, even if you have some kind of front cover?

I used a combination of EcoWeb and spray foam, along with some branches embedded in the foam.

Realize an empty aquarium is fragile standing on end. The frame is not designed for this purpose, so the upended aquarium may not be at 90 degrees to gravity.
With other stuff inside it will be incredibly fragile. It should be moved, empty, in the upright orientation, to the destination for assembly. Once assembled it should not be moved unless first emptied of everything inside. I keep having visions of orchid hobbyists trying to grab expensive orchids jumping out of a shattering aquarium while the glass shards cut like falling knives. I know it would be more expensive, but I think it would be far safer to have a local glass company build something for you designed to be stood on the small end. |

I have a 36" x 36" x 27" cube that's designed to sit in a corner. The tank came drilled with a corner overflow setup, which I covered in black foam to form a waterfall. I also used the foam to stick sheets of EcoWeb on the two sides against the walls. A spray bar trickles water through the media on a timer.

This is my progress so far, foam backing with a combination of coco husk and sphagnum moss background.
Also false bottom made from eggcrate and a small water pump. I drilled 3 holes one at the top for the pump wire, two on the sides for air. I will run small fan; have not decided how or where i will mount it. I could mount inside or outside using one of the drill holes. Still to be done door with silicone hinge, http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1443709769 |
