Mysterious orchid assaulter

I went outside this morning and found several of my orchids knocked off the bench. One was missing entirely, although its empty pot was on the ground beneath the bench. I finally found my plant dragged halfway across the backyard! Didn't find any obvious bite marks, though there was some damage on an old pseudobulb.

Anyone had anything like this happen before? My best guess is that something went after the frogs that like to hop around my plants and managed to take the plant with it. I'm just glad my orchid wasn't dragged away permanently!

Definitely sounds like a chupacabras to me.

Squirrels. In the words of a rancher friend of mine commenting on feral hogs "If I could send in some fast movers to nuke all of them sons of *******, I'd do it in a heartbeat."

I had about the same thing happen to me last year, I am sure it was squirrels in mine . They pulled neos out of their pots and chewed the roots off, some of the plants just disappeared. I don't put them in my shade house anymore. Good luck finding the culprits....Jean

Ha! I thought squirrels, too, but I didn't think they carry a plant that is larger than them, especially for that distance...

I was also thinking it could be a raccoon. Something was stealing the birdfeeder right off my mother-in-law's trees for weeks. They put out a hidden camera and caught the coon thieves red-hande – errr, pawed.

Honestly, I was mostly annoyed that something might be going after my frogs! Those guys were definitely helping me with my slug problem.

Oh well, whatever it was, I hope the chupacabras are dealing out justice!

Hahhaha!! I have frogs by my outdoor area as well. They are so cute! I love that they hang out there.

We have squirrels eating our succulents. I was reading the spraying the plants with a tea made from pepper flakes discourages them. Worth a try?

We have Super Squirrels! They haul giant (before the draught) avocados.

No, they rather liked spicy foods, didn't bat an eye digging in cayenne enhanced soil. I had to cover the tops of pots with chicken wire and let the plants grow between the wire. All orchids are indoors now, an Asctm. hanging 4 ft off the ground on my door received traumatic injuries from squirrels.

In some plant forums people are not permitted to mention the S animal. Exclusion is the only option, and they fit through very small openings. Nothing else works. If one vanishes, another takes its place.
