Newbie question - Are these protocorms?
2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
a couple of months ago I prepared 5 flasks. I used the gaseous sterilization system described here in the stickies. I had never prepared flasks before and was not surprised when all but one showed contamination after some days. The one that stayed clean had a thin film of water on top of the medium so I originally thought it would not germinate either and just put it close to a window. Now (I think after 4 months) I found some tiny yellow green balls inside. Are these protocorms? I am really surprised, so please share your opinion. Thanks! |
Yes they are.
There are relatively few of them. It is best to transfer to fresh flasks where you can space them with room to grow up. On the other hand, if you are satisfied with a handfull, they just might make it in the mother flask. |

Thank you Kim,
I like your answer! I was not really sure whether these tiny balls are protocorms, especially since it took months for them to appear. For now I'll just leave them in the mother flask for a while and watch them growing. And I will try flasking again, as soon as this Cattleya skinneri seed pod gets ripe. This is fun! |
