Fibonacci orchid ?

I bought this "mini" phalenopsis some years ago.
It did not have a tag. With the passing of years, I have noticed that it is a tough plant able to withstand extreme conditions, with a strong tendency to produce keikis. This year it began to bloom in April and it is still blooming. And perhaps to keep my interest it has now begun to produce keikis. I now have 8 plants and 5 keikis growing. If it follows the Fibonacci series in 5 years I would have 144 plants! |
Plant looks very healthy, what an incredible number of keikis. I have 6 phals and none have ever produced keikis -I am dying to get at least one keiki, especially from my phal heiroglyphica. Do you use anything like keiki pro?
|
Thanks Joseia,
I have not used stimulants but i would like to try. I also have several phalenopsis, but this and its progeny are the only one with this behavior. I wish you luck with many keikis to come . |
I want a keiki! Never had one on a Phal spike.

Who is to say or not to say about the fibonnaci sequence.

Hi CambriaWhat,
i was looking at your pictures . You have a wonderful collection of orchids . I would be happy to give you one of my plants but we are very far apart . Good luck Nicola ---------- Post added at 09:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 PM ---------- |
Thank you Nicola! My comment was intended to mean that I would like one of my plants to produce a keiki, not that I wanted you to send me one of yours! But thank you for your kind response!

Hello everybody,
I'm back with an update on the growth of the keikis. The plant in the first picture with two spikes is the first offspring of the plant that I bought. In the second picture a detail of the mother plant spike. For the moment there are no signs of roots and I hope that with the end of flowering the plant will have more energy available. I read on the forum that kelp extract stimulates the growth of roots. Should I use it when I water the plant or can be applied to the base of keikis? thanks for any advice Nicola |
I have 2 keiki's that are growing on one of my noid phals. They haven't started roots yet either but I am just waiting. Everyone including the mother plant is healthy so I am not changing anything on my plant.
Not sure about the kelp, maybe someone else knows. |
I have a crazy phal like that too. It has leaves all the way up the spike. 2 older keikeis which I have left attached. I don't know why, most likely the species that has been mixed in hybredization. I am going to let mine piggy back till they are older and then have baby orchids. (I got about 10 phals from a lady-- not that I really could use them, they are all mainly white because she buys those "dyed" orchids.)
