What is this rescue from local greenhouse?
1 Attachment(s)
I have no idea what this is...oncidium? :hmm
I "rescued" this one from a local greenhouse last year and I thought it was a goner over the winter but then to my surprise this summer it put up new growth and a spike which just flowered and I am beyond excited to find out what it is! It lives outside in fairly mild temperatures, rarely exceeds 85 during the day and dips into low 60's at night. I have kept it pretty moist using only rain water mixed with DynaGrow Grow More fertilizer weekly. If anyone can tell me anything about this beauty I will be ever so grateful! Thank you in advance!! |
It reminds me of a WildCat Orchid. But I don't think it is that one. Just maybe a step in the right direction.
Maybe looking up colmanara orchids would help. |
Trying to add more pictures...

Can't add more than one at a time...need to resize images so they are not so big but I don't know how to do that on my iPad :blushing:

Probably is a Colmanara Wildcat. Isn't there one named 'Green Valley' or something valley?
We know for sure, tho, that we are barking up the right tree. Oncidium Alliance for looking up culture info. Take care Thanks for sharing Good growing Next time help it along, and you will get a long spray of flowers--up to a dozen or more. R |

usually when talking about blooming,
Light, Light, Light. Light helps when they don't bloom, and light helps when they bloom sparsely. Wildcats usually have (on mature plants) long sprays, and a few branches, and pushing 30 buds/blooms. That's why I made that remark. Take care Happy growing Thanks for sharing Hope I helped a bit. Rex |
That lip shape is all wrong for Wildcat. It comes from Onc. tigrinum ancestry. Look among the many Oncidium hybrids with Tiger in the name. Onc. Tiger Crow has been everywhere in recent years, and is a good possibility. Onc. Tiger Hambuhren is an older representative of the type.
