Bc Yellow Bird
in bloom. Has 2 spikes. This one just loves it outdoors. It has outgrown its mount and needs to be attached to a tree trunk.......just not in Chicago :D

Really nice.

I love spotted flowers, and the shape- I always keep the name "yellow Bird" when looking for catt hybrids.

I love the vibrant colors on it, beautiful!

My yellow bird is the most frustrating orchid I have. I've had it for two years, tons of growth, lots of roots, but never any spikes. I've tried blasting it with so much light that the tips turned black and the leaves were covered in purplish freckles. Still nothing. I've cut down on the light, nothing. I even divided the plant and mounted it in the hopes it would like that better. Once again, lots of growth and looks healthy, but no spikes as of yet.
I've been able to bloom every orchid Imhave, but this one is still beyond me. I have a love/hate relationship with this one, with the hate side growing as the months go by. When I see beauties like yours, it just kills me! ;) |
an update.
So there were 4 spikes in total. Interestingly the 4th spike's buds blasted when I brought it indoors when temps went into the 50s outdoors. I should never have done so - I then put it back outside and the 3rd spike recovered. I think this needs much lower overnight temps to trigger blooming ( or day/night temp variation ). I don't know if yours is outdoors, but you should put it out. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...05162ecb8b.jpg |
Thanks for the tip on the lower night temps, I will try hanging it at night on one of my windows in the fall, where it should get much lower night temps. Thanks!
