I've had this for years, never cut off spikes they bloom every year. Outdoors Los Angeles area, easy to grow, tolerates a wide range of temperature, morning sun 50% shade rest of day.

Cool!

Wow! That is quite a show!

Have heard this called the hummingbird orchid too. I'd be right on it. Lovely.

It's lovely, and quiet a show.

I just picked one up from SBOE.
Most seem to like to mount it. If not mounted I'm unclear if it would prefer a loose but retentive media like my oncidium-alliance or something more open and fast drying like Cattleya media. Anyone had success with this on semi-hydro or lava rock or other media? Sources I see describe it as wanting steady moisture, so not sure what media would be best if potted. Dave |
It's a twig epiphyte that grows something like Tolumnias. It gets 4 months or so of regular summer rain while the trees are in full leaf, and the rest of the year it gets only dew at night, while the trees are leafless.
