Adaglossum Summit

I got this as a small plant from Ecuagenera in March. The cultivar 'Frenchtown' had been on my wish list for years but I could never find it so I settled for just the basic hybrid called Summit. I'm a bit disappointed in the size of the blooms (only about 2 inches when OrchidWiz says they should be around 3). But I like the colours and it is a first bloom on a small plant. Anyways, here it is.

The blooms have a graceful, delicate look. Great growing!

I enjoy seeing photos of these kinds of crosses. They are hard to come by, and given the hot weather around here from mid-spring to fall, they are fussy and difficult to grow and bloom. This is a nice one with interesting colors and patterns.

The flower size isn't particularly surprising to me. I suppose some of the awarded clones might be larger (as awarded clones tend to be the very best of the best), but knowing how small a number of commonly hybridized Ada flowers are, the smaller bloom size isn't surprising at all.

Also, if it's a first bloom seedling, you can be sure that if you continue to care for it well, as the plant grows and matures, there will be more flowers per spike and the flowers will likely be larger next time.

Thanks for looking :)

When 'Frenchtown' was awarded it had 76 flowers and buds on 6 spikes, clearly a large mature plant. Your first-bloomer isn't even close to showing you its full potential. And I think these flowers are much more attractive than the awarded clone, showing where Summit's impressive offspring Brascidostele Gilded Tower got much of its appeal.

If anyone goes looking for Summit they may find it as Brassostele rather than Adaglossum.

Oh, I like it well enough and hopefully it will give more and slightly larger blooms as it matures. I just expected presentation to be a bit different and size! It's not headed to the compost pile or anything :)

Thanks RosieC. This stayed in bloom for a long time :)
