Stan. tigrina var. nigroviolacea 'Predator'
2 Attachment(s)
It isn't as dark as I was expecting. I have seen other clones of this be almost a black-maroon. Since this is just newly opened today it might darken a bit, we'll see. Only 2 blooms this go around, but it is a small division.
The fragrance hits you like a dump truck when you walk outside. It is so incredibly strong. Not a bad odor, just a very strong floral scent. |
Swwweeeeeettt! It's wonderful!

Nice one!

I've been wanting a Stanhopea, and this one in particular, for a while now. I dig their weird flowers and the spikes coming from the bottom through the basket.
Really good job getting it to bloom. Any tips for growing and blooming them? |
Good looking tigrina, but I think you're right about it not being 'Predator.' Could be a Predator selfing?

Oh,Stans make me weak in the knees! Waiting for my 2 to put forth and yours is a keeper!

They like it hot and they like lots of water. Other than that I don't really do much for it. It gets the same fertilizer my other orchids get which is K-lite. It is in sphagnum in a plastic slotted basket and gets tons of air flow. I keep it mostly shaded, only receives morning dappled sunlight and is shaded the rest of the day. Quite an easy plant to keep. Quote:

Thanks for posting this one Bulbofett. Bought this species from Ecuagenera at our April show and can't wait for it to bloom.
Can you show us your whole plant? Wondering how large it is compared to mine and if I should expect flowers sooner or later. :) |
