Sciatica
Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with sciatica pain? I've been dealing with it for six weeks now and the doctor offers nothing but steroids and pain meds with no real relief.
Suggestions welcomed! |
Large ice packs to area can help. Find positions of comfort then place ice packs to painful areas.

My wife swears by inversion for hers.

Acupuncture! Works like a charm for a whole host of conditions/problems.

I agree as above. Try homeopathic arnica cream and pellets, tiger balm, rest, osteopath and chiropractors too. Massage helps some.

You should consult with two types of physicians
(1) a neurologist - best one you can find in your area. If all they offer is steroids & pain meds, keep looking. (2) a physical medicine specialist that will focus on physical therapy to address the underlying cause. Back and neck pain should be an area of expertise. Whether the treatment is in their office/practice or at another physical therapy facility, the PT facility should look like a high-tech gym. This is not a quick fix, but if you want more permanent relief, its the way to go. |
PT helped me tremendously with excruciating sciatica caused by a lumbar disc bulge about 5 years ago. Like Orchid Whisperer said, though, it sounds like you could use more professional consultation on potential causes and therapies for your condition. I hope you feel better soon, acute sciatica is the pits!

You can also try and see if you can use orthotic shoes like z-coil shoes. Some testimonials say it helped them with their sciatic pain. But check with your doctor first.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I was kind of on my last nerve. Any sufferers will know what I mean.

Chiropractor, acupuncture, acupressure, massage and PT.
I got something similar to sciatica as a side effect of my lumbago, and acupressure with a tennis ball, releasing knots and tension on the back and sides of the pelvis, helps me a lot. Whether this hekps priper sciatica, I'm not sure though...but most people are tense there. |
