Repotting overgrown phal (and my other crazy plants)

Me and my crazy plants again:)

Have finally started repotting my orchids.
In due time… :p

Okey, turned out the roots had their grips really hard on the pot, so I decided to break the pot😎
And then started to remove all the dead roots.

Used to have them in standing in the window- a bit to much sun. So I am setting them up in a new room, some mounted and some not. Just started- gonna be awesome. Me think, at least :p ;)

As you can see, didnt take long before the leaves started to look healthier. (It did have a spike I didnt notice, and that stopped, but still- its happier now)

I but some small dendrobium (?) in new media- I mixed some moss, coconut chip and bark.

And now I'm gonna do this. Just have to figure out how to do it, and do I remove old bulbs or not? (Its not flowering now)

My new place for the orchids (lol, well some of them- need more place. Stop buying new ones isnt an option…)

Oh, that's one big girl!
I would only remove any rotten or completely dried up (brown and crispy) pbulbs, as they still serve as energy storage.
Awesome growing! :)

Yeah- and the pot is 70cm… Not sure if I'm gonna divide it, or maybe put her in that pot temporary, need repotting badly :p

Lol, sorry about all the big pictures, didnt remember how to make them small

I can never figure out how to make mine big. Goodness I would say those did need a re-pot. They are nice big plants.

ThePinkCucumber 07-07-2015 12:37 AM

It is so huge! But most importantly, it's so happy! :)

Helene 07-07-2015 06:13 AM

Thanks :)

Took some time to clean the roots, got divided in two- but put them all in the 70cm pot-thing :p (from a 12 cm pot)
Gonna let it settle until next spring, then maybe I have figured out what to do with it. New bulbs are kinda growing on top of the old ones. Don't want to disturb it to much, been in the same pot for five years…

Oh, yeah- have a little less bark on top, so the sun doesn't dry it to fast. And perlite in the bottom, and pokes some holes in the bottom as well.

Wow, such big, happy plants! Your oncidium looks like my den/phals that I just massacred, I mean 'divided and repotted'

You do have some crazy cool plants! Great growing. :) How do you support all those air roots. I'm impressed.
