Hello everyone, my name is Valerie & I'm an orchid addict.
Like most addictions, mine was started by someone (my daughter) who was already an addict.
First, she gave me a pretty little Leopard Prince phal in March of 2005. I didn't kill it, so thought that orchids weren't that hard to grow.
Then, in April, she suggested we go by Home Depot just to see what they had. Truth be told, I never knew HD had orchids! Of course I bought a few, what harm was there in that? And of course, they grew & bloomed....
In May she thought it would be fun to go to the Redlands show. We had a fixed budget, but unfortunately, we also had credit cards! Needless to say, we almost overdosed!!! Oh, the shame...
But, did that stop us???? NO!!!!
Next thing you know, we're shopping online & finding any excuse to get an orchid!!
Thank goodness there's not a 12 step program for this addiction because I love it!!!!
Sure, I've killed a few, .....ok, maybe more than a few, but it's a learning process & I've learned what I can & can't grow, sorta :)
I now have over 150 orchids & I'm still learning because I used to live in Palm Springs, FL (near the coast) & moved to Okeechobee, FL (64 miles inland) a year ago.

I would not say you are an addict....perhaps an extremely enthusiastic hobbiest (EEH)? An addict would mean you're out of control, and that would be silly, cause we are all EEH's here at the Orchid Board! :drool:

Seriously, there are worse things in life than loving orchids. Not sharing :photo: of your chids comes to mind. Hummm, not having a big enough vehicle to bring them home in. Oh, and worst of all, hearing about an orchid sale the week after it's over!!!!! :_(

Wow! I thought I had it bad! Welcome to the board.

I go through withdrawls (sign of an addict) when I can't get to a show I've planned on. I keep my fingers crossed for this weekend.

Hi Valerie, Isn't it amazing how fast orchids consume you, joining OB makes you realize your not alone, I hope I never get over this madness(up to about 150 myself)
