Flower in the Wrong Place
1 Attachment(s)
Every year I grow a pot of this lovely annual, and collect seeds to start the next year's pot. Inevitably a plant or two just sort of pops up on its own, and sometimes I let them grow, sometimes not. This year due to an unusually brutal winter with below average temperature and almost no snow cover the pot came up empty. Fortunately this one popped up, but in a rather unusual place. It's in my bog, and this is most definitely not a bog plant! Papaver somniferum, the Opium Poppy:

What a treasure to discover! When I was a kid, you saw them everywhere. It is a pity that they produce opium because when I see the pictures of the fields of these, it is difficult to imagine a more beautiful sight.

It's cool. Brad from Brad Greenhouse on YouTube has a Himalayan blue poppy that is very beautiful.

I've seen pictures of that blue poppy. What a color.

Sorry I wrecked the margins. I do not know how to stop that from happening. If anyone knows please tell me.

Great video, I'm really tempted to get some of those. I saw them for sale online this week. |
My grandmother - a Ukrainian that emigrated to Saskatchewan - grew opium poppies for baking purposes. I have never seen her so angry, when the RCMP drove in and dug them all up!
