Anyone Grow Veggies?
 

:waving all, I have been growing Tomatoes for years. This year I am growing :
Better Boy tomatoes
Beefsteak tomatoes
Russian Black tomatoes
Sweet 100's cherry tomatoes
Everglades cherry tomatoes
Bell pepper
Sweet onion(same type they grow in Vidalia Georgia)
Strawberries
Oh yea! I also have a 4 legged fur bearing scarecrow too! or pest depends on the moment!

Very cool! We just started ours not too long ago and have yet to actually "do" stuff with our garden but at the moment we have Kohlrabbi, Parsley and Lettuce growing in a raised bed.

Right now I could grow snow peas! :rofl: We have many feet of snow, a projected high today of 3 degrees F (actually this pic is from a month ago when snow wasn't so deep and roads weren't closed! Today State Police are threatening tickets to folks driving on major highways in a non-emergency situation. Wow Ross! I thought I had it bad here in Idaho...lol....at least it isn't 3 degree's here, and Boise doesn't have that much snow, but we have gotten more snow then the past few years. It is beautiful, but I am really ready for Spring so that I can plant my garden, but that won't be until May sometime.

I have thought about growing some tomatoes. Should I plant them soon, if I do? I guess so, as yours already have flowers.

Which variety would you say is the best for Florida? and.....do you have bug problems growing in the ground? I have thought about growing in pots. Did I ask enough questions? Geesh.....

Boise is beautiful. I just wished I lived there. The times my wife and I went shopping there (from Baker, Oregon) I just loved it. Must be nice to see the sun during the winter! :evil: :biggrin:

I normally start my plants in Oct. but it was still a little to hot this year so I waited to the end of Nov. I would try a couple. I would suggest that you plant in a pot or 5 gal. buckets this time with some good compost dirt and get plants from home depot that have a good head start.
Cherry tomatoes grow fast and produce late Homestead is another you can start a little late but theres nothing like a beefsteak you will get some if you start now. I would give it a try. Soooooo much better then store bought:drool: I use sevin dust when I till the ground and let it go a couple days then retill cover with ground cloth so I don't have to weed. and I dust the plants a couple time during the growing time or if I see bugs. And I feed the scarecrow tuna.:goodluck:

I haven't even started thinking about the garden yet! Our village is fairly high in altitude, so nothing goes in the ground until mid may, with the exception of the seed potatoes. Those I buy in march to germinate them and plant end of april. Otherwise I usually put some beans, tomatoes, cucumber, courgette, pumpkin, sweet corn, radish, carrots, turnips, lettuce, bell pepper, sometimes cardoon and a few cabbages.... and I can't remember what else! I set up a plastic tunnel to speed things up in the spring.
I can't wait to get it started up again. Home grown tomatoes are too good to be true. And cardoon is so yummy to eat for christmas!

Thanks for the info Dave. Yes, I would start with plants from the local nursery. I think in a pot would be a good way to start and see how I do.

By the way, your scarecrow is adorable. I have three of those myself!

Ooh I so envy you folks in the warmer zones. It's gonna be a few months for us down here yet. I will start my hot peppers in early Feb. Then some of other veggies during march. We don't plant til mid may, sometimes depending on what we wanna go this year. I shy away from the colder crops just too much sun here - they bolt. So the warmer veggies are better for us.

I can't wait to get the season going!
