My Miltassa has a strange bloom
1 Attachment(s)
This Miltassa has a flower stalk growing from the base of the PB as normal, but it also has a bloom coming from the top of the PB. Can anyone tell me if this is ok, not ok or what it means to the future of the PB ?

Complex hybrid playing mutation bingo perhaps?
While it was some ten years ago I last had anything from that alliance, I did get that on my Onc. Star Wars once. |
A bonus flower, don't complain. A bit unusual, but certainly nothing serious in terms of plant health. In fact, if it always did that it would be good breeding stock for more floriferous future hybrids.

Interesting. I have a Wilsonara that bloomed late winter and I didn't really pay attention until a month or so ago to the fact that the spike came from the top, from within the two top leaves, not from the base like its first spike. Also this last pb to bloom grew normally off the one that bloomed before it, however it is the previous pb that started a new growth months before I noticed the younger one started to grow one. Different but somewhat similar to your experience and my plant seems to be doing alright though the new growths are coming along slowly. Good luck & keep us posted if anything else strange happens. ;)

I've had Onc alliance intergenerics do this a couple of times ... Usually it seems there is a small pbulb on top of the normal one, and the spike is coming from that. It doesn't affect the growth of the plant at all, since Oncidium alliance are sympodial.
