mounted L. Purpurata var flamea 'Valley Isle'

I bought this plant at the Redlands show and mounted it on a small piece of cork. It has a new growth, but it's coming up facing the cork, getting kind of nudged against it.
My questions: should I leave it alone? should I put a little moss behind it to train it away from the cork? or should I remove it from the mount (I don't think it's really strongly attached at this point) and turn it around? |
Looks like a pretty good mounting job! Make sure the new root growth doesn't go all over in the moss, because it will just start grabbing moss instead of the mount. When new roots come out, move the moss out of the way of the roots so it can take hold of the mount and start training...

Thanks for the compliment...this was the first time I ever mounted anything. With this new growth pointiing towards the cork, it seems I may have done it backwards although there was no way to know that at the time.
Should I leave it and do some maneuvering as it grows, or take it apart and start again? |
Sue,
No, that is the correct way of mounting it, with the newest growth either upwards or closest to the mount (or even both)... though I would have mounted the plant lower than where it is... if you want, at tonights Friday chat, we can discuss a little about this mounting job... it's very good for a first time job! -PM |
It's a date ;) See ya later.

Susanne, I'm telling ...
Wish I could have joined you's on mounting topic. It's late and no chat, been one of those days where you need to add just a few more hours to the day... Great job on the mount  , have been thinking hard on mounting a few of my phals, running out of room but the walls are so bare, gotta do something about that.  Mahon how about a members article on your expertise with mounts ??? |

Pat...I was all prepared to move the plant higher onto the mount and then found some awesome roots attached nicely already! I'm leaving it just where it is :D
|
Sue,
Looks good with those roots, then you'll get the newer roots from the new growth... (I'm chatting with you now, why don't I just tell you there?) (talking to myself, uh oh)... -PM |
